“We managed to find a common language very quickly, and we worked together easily”
At the end of January 12 musicians from the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra were invited to Malta to perform together with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.
In an interview with The Maltese Herald, the Armenian musicians tell about interesting experiment and share their impressions about Malta.
— Tell us about your performance with the Maltese orchestra. What did you play?
Rosa Hayrapetyan
— We arrived in Malta at the end of January. We gave one concert as a part of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. In particular, we performed Richard Strauss’ The Life of a Hero and the Piano Concerto No 1 by Sergei Rachmaninoff.
— Did you experience any language problems while working? How quickly did you manage to establish communication?
Araks Poghosyan
— Surprisingly, we did not, although the Maltese orchestra has musicians from different places and different nationalities. We managed to find a common language very quickly, and we worked together easily. The musicians of the orchestra are very sociable, friendly, not to mention that they are professionals.
— This is your second visit to Malta. What sites did you manage to see?
Ani Adikyan
— During our last visit, we visited Mdina, the ancient capital of Malta. The city is very beautiful and mysterious, and is very impressive. This time we went to Gozo by ferry, it was exciting and very interesting. From all the countries that I have been to, Malta will remain in memory for a long time.
Rima Mirzoyan
— I would like to add that despite the fact that this is only my second trip to Malta, everything here is already familiar. I have my favorite streets, cafes, shops. It will be sad to leave Malta. Most of all I liked Ghajn Tuffieha beach, as well as the Upper Barrakka Gardens and an impressive view of the Grand Harbor!
— What can you say about the local cuisine? What did you try, what did you like?
Rima Mirzoyan
— I have noticed that the local cuisine is very close to the Italian, as they have many different types of pasta. I especially liked dish made from rabbit, fish dishes, for example, those with tuna. We also tried pastizz — traditional pies made of puff pastry. I hope this is not our last visit to the island, so we will have time to make new discoveries during our next trip.
